Murray’s water plant is prepared for increased water usage as residents respond to drought warnings and increased temperatures.
While residents have been using a higher than average five million gallons of water per day, city officials calm concerns about the potential of limited water usage.
Murray City Administrator Matt Mattingly says residents should not worry about the water supply.
"Obviously, if there’s isn’t any sitting rain, a source of rain that goes into the ground which eventually goes into aquifer, it might be a long term issue for us. But, as of right now, we’re not suspecting any problems.”
Murray city water plant can support a maximum of seven million gallons per day. Murray sources its water from the McNary Formation Aquifer. Its levels are monitored by the Kentucky Division of Water.
