According to the Paducah National Weather Service, this month is the 7th wettest July on record, for as far back as the records go: in 1937. ...And we're only 9 days in.
Barkley Regional Airport reports just over 8 inches of total rainfall, 8.03, as of this morning. With 22 days left to go, they're predicting this month to end up even higher on the chart. The wettest July on record was in 1972, with 12.47 inches of rain.
A flash flood watch remains in effect for much of our listening area through tomorrow morning. As more potentially heavy rainfall moves through our region today and tonight, areas of flooding may occur, especially in areas along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Sunshine is in the forecast tomorrow through the weekend, so hopefully things will dry out ahead of another week with a mix of precipitation and sunshine in the forecast.
