[Audio] TVA Holding Earth Day Clean-Up at Sledd Creek Recreation Area

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Tomorrow, April 22, the Tennessee Valley Authority is holding an Earth Day clean-up at the Sledd Creek Recreation Area in Marshall County. Nick Morris with the TVA speaks to Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about the event.

This is the first time the TVA has coordinated a clean-up event along with an Earth Day celebration. Morris says it’s a great opportunity to leverage Earth Day’s national attention with an important environmental cause.

The holiday first became known in the late sixties after a significant oil spill near California; an activist recommended a day dedicated to the earth. After a senator picked it up, the movement gained traction.

TVA has been celebrating Earth Day all this month, holding several activities in the region to promote a healthy environment. Morris hopes the upcoming event can help preserve the reservoir and cut down on trash in the area.

The clean-up will run from 10-2 tomorrow, and anyone is invited to help. To sign up, contact Morris at nbmorris@tva.gov or call the Public Lands Information Center at 882-5263.

Tracy started working for WKMS in 1994 while attending Murray State University. After receiving his Bachelors and Masters degrees from MSU he was hired as Operations/Web/Sports Director in 2000. Tracy hosted All Things Considered from 2004-2012 and has served as host/producer of several music shows including Cafe Jazz, and Jazz Horizons. In 2001, Tracy revived Beyond The Edge, a legacy alternative music program that had been on hiatus for several years. Tracy was named Program Director in 2011 and created the midday music and conversation program Sounds Good in 2012 which he hosts Monday-Thursday. Tracy lives in Murray with his wife, son and daughter.
