The Paducah City Commission approved an ordinance last night requiring alcoholic beverage training for persons licensed for or employed in the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink. The training is to include the identification of false documents, recognition of intoxication, and liability issues. It is also to explain how to handle different scenarios such as confronting a patron who needs to be cut off. Current employees must receive training within 90 days of the ordinance’s adoption and all employees hired afterwards have 60 days from their date of hire to complete the program. Re-certification will then be required every three years. Mayor Bill Paxton says he thinks Paducah is a better city for having the ordinance on the books.
