Former Gov. Carroll Says Doctors Need to Cut Prescriptions

Julian Carroll

A former Kentucky governor believes physicians have helped fuel the state’s problem with prescription drug abuse by over-prescribing medications.

State Senator Julian Carroll is a democrat from Frankfort, and West Paducah native.

"The last time I saw national statistics on prescription drugs, Kentucky’s use is twice the national average. And that’s not the pill problems. That’s prescribed medications by medical doctors," Carroll said.

Carroll thinks doctors could help reduce the amount of drugs being sold on the street illegally by cutting back on the medications they prescribe.
