Barr Urges Temporary Fix for Fiscal Cliff

andybarrforcongress.com

Sixth District Congressman-Elect Andy Barr says he'll get serious when it comes to cutting spending as Congress deals with the so-called "fiscal cliff." Barr made the remarks on KET's One To One with Bill Goodman this week. In the meantime, however, Barr urged members of Congress to create a temporary fix.

“If they don’t do anything about this, we’re looking at over a half a trillion dollar increase in taxes on the American people on Jan. 1 ,” he says. We’re talking about draconian cuts in our national defense spending that could ultimately impact the Bluegrass Army Depot and Bluegrass Station in our jobs there. So there’s gotta be something done at least on a temporary basis during the lame duck session to give us a little bit of breathing room so we can deal with the big decisions.”

Barr defeated Congressman Ben Chandler in Tuesday's election and has vowed to reach across the aisle and work with Democrats to address the fiscal cliff and other pressing issues.

You can hear more with Andy Barr tonight on a full broadcast of One to One at 6:30 on WKMS.
