The Hopkins County-Madisonville Public Library asked the city for the same amount of operating funds as it prepares to move to its new location on East Center Street later this year.
Library Director Joel Meador said the $180,000 allows them to continue programming like their health initiative.
“Here at this library we are not a library taxing district so we’re pretty much 100 percent dependent on the money we receive from the city and the county,” he said.
Meador said construction on the new location in underway and should be finished by August, but an opening date has not been set.
“We’re looking at opening sometime late summer early fall likely,” he said.
Meador says construction is underway on the new facility’s exterior and will begin shortly on the interior, which the city has already begun work on.
