Susanna French of Marshall County has been named 1st Vice President of the National Federation of Democratic Women.

The federation has chapters in 33 states and is committed to uniting women of the Democratic Party through encouraging full participation of women in every level of the Party's structure.

French says her passion to the advancement of women in politics has led to her commitment to the federation, as its mission mirrors her own.

"When women with a mutual goal come together, there is nothing they cannot do," said French in a letter submitted to the NFDW nominating committee.  "With solid, progressive leadership, women can increase their grass roots efforts, develop new and forward-thinking ways to not only elect Democratic women, but all candidates who are committed to the same ideals and political platforms."

French was also named the federation's 2015 Outstanding Member at its annual convention in early June.
