Kentucky’s 12 western-most counties are now among those that can electronically file court cases.
The Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts reports the move will make the court system more efficient and began offering electronic case filing today in Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken and Trigg counties.
The system allows members of the court to file motions and access case files over the web anytime. Since the start of eFiling in December 2013, more than 800 attorneys and other users have filed more than 33,000 documents electronically. Attorneys are filing case documents during normal business hours, after hours and on weekends.
“eFiling is ushering in an important new era for the Kentucky justice system,” said Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr. “Gone will be the days of attorneys on deadline rushing to file a motion before the courthouse closes. Now they can take care of business for their clients anywhere and anytime."
The AOC began the $28 million E-Filing project in 2013 and plans to have the program available to courts in all 120 Kentucky counties by the end of the year.
