The Kentucky Democratic Party has named as its executive director a former national leader in the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. Mary Nishimuta worked closely with field staff in Kentucky during last year’s Democratic primary. Sanders and Hillary Clinton were nearly evenly split among the state’s Democratic voters.
Nishimuta said she believes the best way to unify the party is through the “KDP’s 120 County Strategic Plan.”
“What it does is it empowers our county party committees to implement change and be that driver of force in their local communities. So my first objective and my primary objective in the near term is to solidify our county parties and solidify the work they are doing.” Nishimuta said.
Communications Director Daniel Lowry said the KDP hopes to “re-energize” and make a comeback for the 2018 mid-term elections.
