In west Kentucky, Republicans flipped the last two Democratic state House seats, a state Senate seat, kept an open seat and fended off challenges from former Democratic Representatives that had hoped to reclaim their seats.

Realtor Randy Bridges won the 3rd District that includes Paducah. Radio businessman Chris Freeland won District 6, which includes Marshall and Lyon Counties.

In the 5th District that includes Calloway and part of Trigg, Republican former Judge/Executive Larry Elkins and former state Representative Kenny Imes switched positions. Imes had been appointed Judge/Executive by Governor Matt Bevin following Elkins’ retirement from the position.

In District 8 that includes Hopkinsville, Walker Wood Thomas kept his seat in a close race against Jeff Taylor, who briefly held the seat in 2016.

In District 15 - Muhlenberg and part of Hopkins - Melinda Gibbons Prunty held in a fairly close race against Brent Yonts.

Robby Mills defeated incumbent Democratic Senator Dorsey Ridley in the 4th Senate district.

Republicans have also held their majorities in the Kentucky legislature.
