The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky has named Murray Mayor Jack rose a Healthy Kentucky Policy Champion for passing a smoke-free ordinance in the city.
Baptist Health Paducah’s Dona Rains nominated Rose for the award. She says Rose was the primary force behind the adoption of a comprehensive smoke-free law in Murray, one of only two such laws in Purchase Area. The ordinance goes into effect next month.
Rose is now eligible to win a $5,000 grant for a state nonprofit through the Healthy Kentucky Policy Champion of the Year award. The winner of that award will be announced on September 24. Paducah Mayor Brandi Harless was also named a Healthy Kentucky Policy Champion.
