Murray, KY – A federal report shows problems were found at most Kentucky nursing homes inspected in 2007, but fewer than the national average. The US Department of Health and Human Services office of the inspector general issued the report, which says deficiencies were found at 88 percent of Kentucky nursing homes. Nationally, the average was 92 percent. Kentucky also had fewer problems noted per inspectors' visits than nationally 4.5 deficiencies compared with seven as the national average. Kentuckians for Nursing Home Reform founder Bernie Vonderheide says the report is evidence that a change is needed. Trade group Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities president Ruby Jo Lubarsky says the survey isn't a good indicator of quality of care.
