Stumbo Calls for Stricter EPO Legislation
By Angela Hatton
Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo is calling for legislation that would allow courts to tag certain domestic violence offenders with high-tech electronic monitoring devices. Stumbo says the plan is to give victims a "fighting chance" and alert them when they could be in imminent danger from their attacker. The proposal comes nearly two weeks after former state Representative Steve Nunn allegedly shot and killed Amanda Ross, his ex-girlfriend. Ross had a court-ordered emergency protective order against Nunn. Stumbo says he'll be pushing the legislation when the General Assembly returns in January and wants to call it "Amanda's Law." Stumbo says 13 other states have similar legislation on the books.
