Whitfield supports nuclear power

By Rebecca Feldhaus

Murray, KY – U-S Representative Ed Whitfield today admonished the Obama Administration for halting production of would-be nuclear waste repository Yucca Mountain. The Nevada site would have taken waste from the 109 nuclear plants currently housing their own waste. The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant has a stake in the decision, because it is the only domestic uranium enrichment plant producing fuel for plants across the country. Whitfield calls nuclear energy a reliable and emission free source of energy. He says Obama's decision to stop the building could end up costing the country billions of dollars in lawsuits.
