Mayfield, KY – The Gainesville, Florida Pastor who threatened Quran burnings on September 11th might come to Mayfield. Reverend Terry Jones spoke with WFLA radio in Tampa Monday citing he may come to Mayfield because of the ongoing dispute over a potential mosque there. "Got a phone call from a small town up there called Mayfield Kentucky, And they have about 200 Muslims there, and the town voted down the building of a mosque," "And the Muslims in that city began to get violent. They began to push people around at the supermarkets. We have a definite possibility of a problem here in America," said Jones.
Calls to the Mayfield police and Graves County Sheriff were not immediately returned regarding Jones' claims of Somali violence toward Mayfield citizens. The Mayfield zoning board initially allowed the conditional use permit for the mosque and then later held another vote with public input and denied the permit based on limited parking. The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging the ruling.
