Mayfield, KY – The Mayfield Zoning board votes for a third time November 9th whether to allow a group of Somali Muslims to use a downtown building as a mosque. At meeting this morning the board voted to strike all previous votes from the record and vote again at the board's next meeting. The Zoning Board initially approved the permit, but then later reversed the decision at a second meeting that included public comment. The board cited parking issues as the reason for denying the permit. Controversy and media attention surrounding the permit denial garnered the support of the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU asked the board to revisit the decision which prompted today's meeting.
