Ruling Expected By Year's End in KY Wagering Case

By AP

Frankfort, KY – A decision on whether Kentucky racetracks can offer betting on contests that have already been run is expected within a few weeks, but the case is likely to be appealed either way. The Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet, the Revenue Department and the eight racetracks in Kentucky argued Tuesday it is legal to allow such betting, but a conservative advocacy group, the Family Foundation, countered that it is illegal and nothing more than video slot machines.

The case is now in the hands of Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate. Wingate says he'll decide before the end of the year. The tracks say revenues from the wagers would improve purses at Kentucky tracks.
