Soldier Faces Murder Charges

By Angela Hatton

Fort Campbell, KY – A Fort Campbell soldier faces attempted murder and assault charges after stabbing a military police officer this week. Fort Campbell Military Affairs Officer Kelly DeWitt says 35-year-old Staff Sergeant Ian Kriebel flagged down an on-duty MP early morning Tuesday, and stabbed him several times.

"In the process, the police officer managed to fire off a shot which did strike Sergeant Kriebel. Both soldiers were life-flighted to Vanderbilt where the, the military policeman remains."

The MP, whose name has not been released, is in stable condition. DeWitt says Kriebel's attack appears premeditated, though she declined to offer details. Officers from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Command continue to investigate. Kriebel remains in military custody, and faces court martial.
