Frankfort, KY – A bill requiring ignition interlock devices on vehicles driven by convicted drunken drivers has cleared a Kentucky House committee. Vehicles equipped with the devices won't crank for drivers who are over the blood-alcohol limit. The bill's primary sponsor, Rep. Dennis Keene of Wilder, says similar laws are already in effect in 13 states.
"I am hopeful that this bill moves again swiftly through the House and that the Senate will finally see that this is a powerful tool Kentucky can use to crackdown on drunk driving before one more person dies."
Similar legislation offered last year by Rep. Keene unanimously cleared the House, only to die in the Senate. This year's bill now moves to the House floor.
