Paducah, KY – Counties in the region are still digging out of heavy snow that dropped quickly and unexpectedly today. McCracken County Emergency Management Meteorologist Beau Dodson says the weather changed at the last minute. He says the cause was an affect which also causes flash flooding in the summer months. Dodson says some counties received as many as eight to ten inches.
"I have found in this area that a lot of people like snow. They don't like it to linger, but they do like snow on Christmas, they do like snow to see every so often, but it's been a long winter. It's been a colder winter than forecast, and I've heard a lot of people say they will be happy for spring to arrive."
Police have responded to multiple crashes today. Highways and parts of I-24 were blocked earlier as crews responded to large vehicles that had slid off the road. Roads remain hazardous this evening as temperatures drop below freezing.
