Nashville, TN – A measure that would require Tennessee driver's license tests to be given only in English is scheduled before a key Senate panel today. The Senate Transportation Committee will hear the Republican-sponsored proposal. A similar measure passed the Senate last year but failed in the House. However, this year the GOP controls both chambers and every committee is headed by a Republican. Analysts expect the measure to pass this year. Supporters of the bill say it's intended to promote safety, but opponents say the proposal will hurt economic development in Tennessee.
