Murray, KY – Purchase Area Republicans got a closer look at their candidates this year at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner in Murray. John Kemper III of Lexington faces Addia Wuchner of Florence. Kemper is a political newcomer who says he will reduce taxes by showing in audits where money can be cut. Wuchner is a sitting state representative who says she will operate an independent auditor's office that reduces duplication in government. Jamie Comer of Tompkinsville and Rob Rothenburger of Shelbyville vie for Agriculture Commissioner. Rothenburger promises to help Kentucky business by protecting farms from regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Department of Agriculture. Comer wants to expand markets for state ag products and enhance rural economic development. Bill Johnson of Elkton and Hilda Legg of Somerset are running for Secretary of State. Republican Trey Grayson resigned from the office last month to take a job at Harvard. Johnson called for requiring picture IDs at the polls, and automating government processes. Legg says her goals are protecting the integrity of the vote, and increasing civics education.
