KDP to Pay for Governor's Portrait

By Angela Hatton

Louisville, KY – The Kentucky Democratic Party will pay for Governor Steve Beshear's official portrait. The state typically pays the cost for the oil painting of each governor. Finance Cabinet spokesperson Cindy Lanham says Governor Beshear did not want the state to pay for the painting during tight financial times. KDP Spokesman Matt Erwin says the commission will cost 17,500 dollars. Erwin says the governor approached the KDP about paying for the work. Joy Thomas of Murray will paint the portrait, which will hang in the Hall of Governors at the Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.
