Frankfort, KY – The latest attempt to win passage of an informed consent abortion bill in Kentucky has failed. Derek Selznick of the ACLU of Kentucky spoke against the bill, which would require doctors to perform ultrasounds on women seeking abortions. House Minority Leader Jeffrey Hoover was among those urging approval.
"And the way to address it is to pass the bill out of committee, even if it's the committee's choice to do that without a favorable expression. And allow the entire body to get the bill, have the debate and vote on it. And take care of the issue that's been pending for several years."
But the House Health and Welfare Committee voted 9-7 against the bill, which sailed through the Senate in January.
