Metropolis, IL – The low that brought rain and severe weather through our region moves east out of the area. Massac County, Illinois and Livingston County saw some wind damage early this morning, but as Meteorologist Beau Dodson puts it: the area has likely dodged a bullet.
"We actually thought the most severe damage would be over Arkansas, west Tennessee, southeast Missouri and west Kentucky, but that wasn't the case."
Instead Dodson says a warm air cap never broke over our region which would have caused explosive thunderstorm development.
"It appears the severe weather threat's over for far western Kentucky."
Still, rainfall over the WKMS-listening region is prompting flash flood warnings in several area counties. Runoff combined with northern snow melt is also prompting river flood warnings along the Ohio and Mississippi. River levels surpassed the flood stage at Grand Chain Dam yesterday evening and are expected to rise to about six and a half feet above the flood line by later this morning.
