Fulton, KY – Fulton City and County Schools will not consolidate. Fulton Independent Board members yesterday voted against merging with the Fulton County School District. Superintendent Dianne Owen says in recent discussion meetings several residents and families have spoken out against consolidation. She says the board also considered current test scores and financial reports, which put the independent district in a stable position. Owen says the district has seen a decline in student population in the past decade, from closed to 500 to 388. She says that attrition has leveled off in recent years, and isn't expected to decline significantly, even with the announced closure of Union City's Goodyear Plant.
