Obion Schools Drug Testing Program

By Rose Krzton-Presson

Murray, KY – School Officials for Obion Central and South Fulton High School have moved to require drug testing for some students. Assistant Director of Schools Dale Hollowell says the program begins next school year and could affect any student grade 9-12 that participates in extra curricular activities or drives to school. Five testing sessions will be performed per year with ten percent of eligible students participating. If a student fails a drug test, they will be banned from their activity for a predetermined time and given counseling until they can pass a follow up test. Officials expect the program to cost around $10,000 and will be paid for by the schools system's general fund.
