Paducah, KY – Paducah Mayor Bill Paxton is calling for support for merging the city-county government after 2010 Census results found the city's population thinned by almost 1,300 over the last decade. Paxton says officials should be fighting to keep people in McCracken County not just within the city limits. Commissioner Gayle Kaler tells the Paducah Sun she's puzzled by the figures, which put Paducah's total population at just over 25,000. Kaler theorizes the city's neighborhood revitalization and Lower Town Artist Relocation Programs have turned many rental properties into single family homes, reducing the number of those living in those neighborhoods.
