Madisonville, KY – Two Madisonville city council members plan to introduce a measure to allow alcohol sales on Sunday. Bob Simmons and Hannah Myers tell the Madisonville Messenger they will propose the ordinance at the April 18 council meeting. Simmons says the ordinance would only include restaurants, not package liquor. The measure would allow alcohol sales between 1 and 10 PM on Sundays. It would also increase the regulatory license fee by 1 percent. Supporters say the new rule would give Madisonville a competitive edge with cities like Evansville and Clarksville that already have Sunday liquor sales. Mayor David Jackson says he does not personally support the measure, but can see its economic benefit.
