McCracken Co's Coal Projects Public Hearing to Have Sequel

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – McCracken County Commissioners ended last night's public hearing on a proposed zone change along Carneal Road and the Ohio River after three hours of testimony, but with 18 people still wishing to speak. The proposal would change the 430 acre property from rural residential to heavy industrial, in order to build a coal terminal and coal-to-liquid plant. Judge-Executive Van Newberry tells the Paducah Sun another hearing will be set next or the following week to hear the rest of the comments. The projects promise to bring in area jobs, but opponents cite worries of airborne coal dust, noise and health issues.
