Clinton, KY – Residents in Kentucky river counties are noticing a difference in water levels after the Army Corps of Engineers intentionally breached a levee at Birds Point. The corps destroyed part of the levee to alleviate flooding on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Hickman County Extension Agent Darian Irvan says the last explosion happened around midday today. Irvan says water on roadways in the county has started to go down. As of two o'clock today, the National Weather Service predicted water levels at Cairo will begin to taper off tomorrow, though they will remain above 59 feet for the rest of the week. Paducah Public Information Officer Pam Spencer says the Ohio crest predication has dropped three feet since the blasting at Bird Point. Forecasters expect the Ohio to crest there Thursday at 55 feet.
