Paducah Floodgates Being Removed

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Paducah's floodgates are being removed. City Engineer Rick Murphy expects most of the 45 floodgates used to combat the swollen Ohio River will be taken down by the end of the week. Some of the gates, however, are to be permanently sealed. The National Weather Service reports the Paducah's river level will drop below 46 feet today and should go down to 43 feet by week's end. The city also plans to remove the temporary levee protecting the Julian Carroll Convention and Paducah-McCracken County Expo Centers. It was built with debris from the Executive Inn. Murphy says a permanent solution needs to be set in place there.
