Paducah, KY – McCracken County Commissioners are slated to vote on a controversial zoning change proposal for property along Carneal Road and the Ohio River. The change would switch the 430-acre property's designation from rural residential to heavy industrial, in order to build a coal terminal and coal-to-liquid plant. The companies behind the developments are Southern Coal Handling and Secure Energy, which promise to bring in 180 well-paying jobs. The Paducah Sun reports four public hearings and months of discussion have led up to tonight's vote, with opponents citing worries of airborne coal dust, noise and health issues.
