Western Kentucky – The second part of an initiative to eliminate a Western Kentucky mosquito infestation brought on by recent flooding launches Monday. Last week, state contractors conducted aerial spraying of more than 700,000 acres across the region. Now, crews will target mosquito larvae in standing flood waters. A memo from Governor Steve Beshear's office says the chemicals used for these treatments are only harmful to mosquito larvae. Heavy flooding in April and May created prime breeding grounds for the insects, some of which may carry disease.
