ROMP begins in Owensboro

By Rose Krzton-Presson

Owensboro, KY – The bluegrass festival ROMP in Owensboro's Yellow Creek Park begins today with acts by Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers as well as Coralee & the Townies and The Farewell Drifters. Attendance is up and International Bluegrass Music Museum Marketing Director Danny Clark says that the museum worked to appeal to new audiences with a wider array of music styles.

"We've gone from a straight-up bluegrass festival to a bluegrass festival that's incorporating some of the old things about bluegrass and some of the new things about bluegrass. You've the Carolina Chocolate Drops which are like an old-time band and you've got the Punch Brothers who can do a Flatt & Scruggs song and then they can do a Chris Thile song. Everything has changed here."
