Jackson Purchase Medical Center Settles for $1M

By Jacque Day

Mayfield, Ky. – Jackson Purchase Medical Center has agreed to pay nearly $1 million dollars to the federal government amid false claims allegations. A release from Kentucky U.S. Attorney David Hale states the medical center inappropriately billed Medicare. Specifically, the government alleged, JPMC claimed inpatient rates for certain procedures when they should have been billed as outpatient admissions. The matter came to the authorities' attention after a beneficiary reported the incorrect billing on a statement. The over-billing occurred from January 2004 through December 2010. JPMC is to pay the settlement by July 7.
