Kentucky Future Promising

By WMKY

Frankfort, KY – An official with the Kentucky workforce development cabinet thinks the state is in pretty good shape relative to others when it comes to its prospects for future growth. Ron Crouch is the cabinet's director of research and statistics.

"The northeastern part of the United States is in major decline. The midwestern part of the United States is in major decline. The northwest was doing pretty well. They're sort of suffering a little bit now. If current trends continue, the southeast will be the new economic engine doing the best in the country. And I actually think Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia are four states that have real potential in the new demographics."

Crouch says Kentucky is rich with natural resources and is making progress better educating its young people. In fact, he doubts if many states have shown greater improvements in education since 1990.
