Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway is warning about the resurgence of what's come to be known as the "grandparent's scam" that has cost elderly Kentuckians at least $40,000 so far. Investigators have received four new complaints in the past month. The scam involves people calling senior citizens pretending to be their grandchildren and asking that money be wired to them. Scammers have been using social-networking websites to gather personal information to pull off the ruse. In one of the most recent cases, a Fort Mitchell woman sent $4,800 to someone claiming to be her grandson who said he had been in an accident in Mexico City. Conway says an Owensboro man lost more than $8,100, a Benton woman lost $6,000 and a Jenkins woman lost $3,000.
