Murray, KY – New 2010 Census Data will have some Kentucky residents voting in a different district this time next year. Co-chair of the State Government Committee and 4th District Representative Mike Cherry says the most significant changes will come in the far east and western parts of the state. He says some of those districts will need up to 3000 additional residents to meet minimum state requirements. Lawmakers will redraw the districts, and Cherry says it's important for the Democrats and Republicans to reach a compromise on their plans. He says,
"The same plan has to pass both houses. So if we get into an argument, something that we the majority in the house don't like about the senate's bill or vice-versa, it could drag on for a long time."
Cherry says he hopes the two parties will work together on a solution to avoid delays in the redistricting process. He says the two sides will have to reach an agreement before the January 30th deadline for candidates to file for next year's elections.
