McCracken County Detectives Use Minor For Drug Bust Without Parent's Consent

By Shelly Baskin/The Paducah Sun

Paducah, KY – A McCracken county father says sheriff's detectives put his teenage daughter at risk by using her in a sting operation without his consent. The Paducah Sun reports the 16-year-old girl served as a confidential informant in a drug trafficking investigation. The girl's father told the newspaper that she had been receiving threats since the incident; he subsequently released the girl's name to the paper. Sheriff Jon Hayden says the girl wasn't in any danger during the incident, but agrees that her parents should have been contacted. Hayden says though state law doesn't require parental consent to use a minor in a sting, departmental policy does. The department reprimanded Sgt. Jesse Riddle and detective Ryan Norman and apologized to the girl's father for their actions.
