Bowling Green, KY – Many pharmacies and medical clinics already have the flu vaccine on hand. But will immunity last if people are vaccinated now?
"We haven't had any confirmed cases of flu yet reported in Kentucky. But it really is not too early to receive a flu vaccination in preparation for this year's flu season."
Dr. Kraig Humbaugh is the State Epidemiologist in the Kentucky Department for public health. He says it's not too early to get a shot or the nasal spray, although flu season doesn't normally peak until January. Children under the age of nine are especially urged to get vaccinated early since they must get two doses a month apart. Pregnant women, children, older adults and people with chronic health conditions are especially urged to get vaccinated.
