Murray, KY – The Kentucky League of Cities is back in the spotlight after asking a state ethics panel for special permission to give Secretary of State Elaine Walker an unspecified gift worth up to $500. The Executive Branch Ethics Commission denied the request, saying the amount was excessive. Under Kentucky law, the state's elected leaders can only accept gifts valued at up to $25, unless the ethics panel grants an exception. The League of Cities wanted to give Walker the gift in appreciation for her work with the organization while she was Bowling Green mayor. Walker says she understands and supports the ethics panel's decision. League of Cities executive director Jon Steiner says his organization will abide by the determination.
