Murray, KY – Kentucky gubernatorial candidate David Williams met with Murray residents and business leaders this morning to promote his plan for the state's economic recovery. The stop was part of his campaign through west Kentucky to shore up local support in the weeks leading up to the election. At the meeting, Williams said current state policies are preventing economic growth in the Commonwealth. Williams says,
"I think the most important thing we can do is make Kentucky a state where we eliminate the personal and business income taxes so we can compete with those states that tax consumption and not productivity. That change alone will level the playing field between Kentucky and Tennessee and Kentucky and Florida and Texas and those states that made those changes."
Williams also said he'd leave certain economic decisions, such as whether prevailing wage will be paid on construction projects, up to local governments. He says that, along with the changes in the tax structure, will allow areas like Calloway County to compete with neighboring states for new businesses. Despite his efforts to reach voters, most polls still show Williams trailing incumbent Democrat Steve Beshear by over 20 percentage points.
