Benton, KY – Some pharmacies in western Kentucky have stopped selling popular cold and allergy medicines without prescriptions. Benton pharmacist David Yancy says his and other pharmacies are hoping to combat methamphetamine. Many over-the-counter cold and allergy medicines contain pseudoephedrine, which is a primary ingredient in meth. Yancy says he doesn't want to send away legitimately sick people, but feels he must because of drug abuse. Marshall County attorney Jeff Edwards tells WPSD-TV pharmacies are private businesses, and can legally place restrictions on drug sales.
