Tennessee Black Caucus Raises Redistricting Concerns

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Members of Tennessee's Legislative Black Caucus are raising concerns about the lack of input in redistricting discussions in the Republican-controlled General Assembly. They say they're preparing for legal action if that doesn't change. Democratic Representative G.A. Hardaway says he can't envision a fair plan without involving the caucus. Representative Karen Camper says attorneys and experts with groups like the NAACP should be brought in before the plan is completed to help avoid potential redistricting problems. Republican House Speaker Beth Harwell calls the redistricting plan a work in progress and says those efforts should be allowed to continue without the threat of a lawsuit.
