Murray, KY – A national conference will be held in Louisville to help educators implement more rigorous benchmarks for schoolchildren. The conference on common core academic standards is scheduled for late February. Kentucky's Council on Postsecondary Education says it will co-host the event with a group called the College Readiness Partnership. College- and career-readiness have become the new buzzwords in public education, replacing subject proficiency as goals for public school students. In February 2010, Kentucky became the first state in the nation to adopt the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics.
