Beshear Urges Kentucky Leaders to Put Politics Aside

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Governor Steve Beshear is calling for Kentucky's political leaders to put partisan politics aside to do what's best for the state. That was a key theme in an inaugural address Beshear delivered outside the state Capitol on Tuesday, the first day of his second term in office. The Democrat who overwhelmingly defeated two challengers in the November 8th election told hundreds of spectators, including many state lawmakers, that the election is over and now they must put divisive politics aside. But in the same speech, he proposed expanding gambling opportunities in Kentucky, which has been one of the most divisive issues in recent years. He said he wants Kentucky voters to decide
whether to amend the state constitution to allow more kinds of gambling.
