UPS Pilots Exempt from FAA Regulations

By Chad Lampe

Murray, KY – New federal regulations on pilot rest will not apply to cargo pilots, such as those working out of Louisville's UPS hub. And that's led to frustration with the local Independent Pilots Association. In a statement, the IPA says letting cargo companies opt in to the new rules is like letting truck drivers opt in to drunk driving laws. The union is encouraging UPS to voluntarily adopt the new regulations, which mandate longer periods of rest before flights and reduce the number of hours pilots can fly each week and month.
