Forty years ago on this day, the first multilateral disarmament treaty banning the production of an entire category of weapons was signed by the United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, and other countries at the Bilogical Weapons Convention. The treaty came into force on March 26, 1975 with ratification by 22 states. Currently, there are 165 states that have ratified or acceded to the treaty. This prohibits the development, production,and stockpiling of biological and toxin weapons. There are 23 countries that have not signed the BWC, notably Israel, Kazakhstan, and several African countries.

Western Baptist Hospital offers Start! Walking day tomorrow from 6 AM to 4 PM. The day celebrates walking as a way to manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease. The public is invited to use the hospital’s outdoor one-mile walking trail, starting at the entrance of the Baptist Heart Center.
